CSR Frequently Asked Questions
“Committed to Tomorrow” is Beissier’s CSR roadmap, which outlines our 2030 ambitions based on our company purpose: enhancing finishing worksites through innovative solutions and fillers, with the support of all our stakeholders and by fully integrating biodiversity into our business model. This approach is built on four key pillars:
- Innovating and offering sustainable products.
- Reducing our environmental impact.
- Caring for our internal stakeholders.
- Collaborating with our external stakeholders.
Our CSR committee is organized around these four pillars, each supported by a dedicated working group composed of Beissier employees to ensure we take targeted action on each issue.
Beissier’s environmental strategy is driven by two main assessment tools:
- Our overall carbon footprint, which guides our decarbonization strategy (18,903 tCO₂ for 2022).
- Our product-level carbon footprint, calculated through life cycle assessments (LCAs) that will cover 100% of our product range by 2030.
We are also committed to transparency. Our environmental performance is assessed by third-party organizations. Through the INIES database, our Environmental and Health Declarations (FDES) validate our engagement. The NF Environment eco-label certifies that our products meet strict environmental standards. By 2025, 95% of our sales will carry the NFE label.
Beissier has been conducting carbon footprint assessments since 2021 to identify our greenhouse gas (GHG) emission sources, understand their impacts, and take the most effective actions to reduce them. For example, we found that 60% of our GHG emissions stem from the manufacturing and transportation of raw materials. Integrating this data into our 2030 CSR roadmap is key to implementing appropriate measures.
Beissier’s GHG emissions primarily originate from:
- Raw material procurement (52%)
- Freight transportation (22%)
- Packaging (16%)
- Remaining 10%: capital assets (4%), business travel (2%), direct waste (2%), and energy (2%)
By 2030, we have committed to several ambitious targets:
- 100% of plastic packaging containing 30% PCR (post-consumer recycled content)
- LCA conducted on 100% of our product range
- Zero residual waste
- 50% water self-sufficiency to cover 65% of consumption
- CSR and local criteria accounting for 30% in supplier selection
- 100% of suppliers signing our CSR charter
- -80% GHG by 2050
- 95% of sales certified NFE by 2025
Examples of actions implemented in 2023:
- Switched cardboard boxes: saving approx. 127 kg of CO₂ annually
- Replaced Prestonett bags with kraft paper bags (no free film): 1.146 million bags/year = 9 tons less plastic and €10k saved
- Reused Beissier Spain cartons (Bolsa shipments) for Amazon deliveries
- Pooled retail logistics flows: LM = Dachser / Bricoman = Macon, optimizing truckloads
- Recovered heat from compressors and lowered factory/office heating: -30% gas kWh consumed
- Switched to LED lighting: -5% electricity consumption
The main types of waste from filler production include:
- Paste fillers (19% of total waste weight)
- Filter press cakes (18%)
- Pallets (14%)
- Soiled empty packaging (11%)
- Dust extraction residues (10%)
Of all waste generated:
- 31.2% is landfilled
- 27.2% is recycled
- 22.6% is recovered
- 18.9% is incinerated
- Pallets are reused
Our 2030 objective is to achieve zero residual waste.
Beyond quality and economic performance, our procurement policy reflects a strong commitment to collective cooperation with partners. In this spirit, we map the CSR maturity of all our suppliers and survey them every two years on their ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications.
By 2030, we aim for:
- 100% of suppliers with turnover over €50,000 to sign our Responsible Procurement Policy
- CSR performance and localization to account for 30% of the supplier selection decision
At Beissier, workplace safety and well-being are top priorities.
We conduct annual assessments of chemical risks associated with specific roles to implement preventive measures. We also provide continuous safety awareness initiatives and ergonomic training to ensure safe daily practices.
Employee surveys in 2019 and 2024 have helped us measure workplace well-being and better understand employee expectations so we can continue to respond effectively.
“Caring for our internal stakeholders” is one of the core pillars of our CSR roadmap. In 2023, we strengthened several actions, including:
- Zero-accident policy
- Social dialogue
- Training access for all employees
- Right to disconnect
- Gender equality promotion
- Anti-harassment protection
Our STO (Occupational Health and Safety) code of conduct reinforces safety rules displayed at our sites. In addition, we provide practical well-being benefits, such as:
- Osteopathy treatments covered by company health insurance (by appointment)
- Engagement days featuring collective workshops, empowering each employee to act individually.
